A new health centre for Saddleworth

Residents in Saddleworth are isolated from health services by distance. Our current GP health centre was designed to serve a smaller population. We need a new health centre built to allow local access to a wider range of services, so that residents can get the health support they need, near them.

The current GP practice in Uppermill, despite the hard work of the doctors and staff, was designed to cope with a smaller population. It also is just that – a GP practice, not a modern health centre which provides local access to a much wider range of services that people need.

For residents without a car, needing public transport to get to Royal Oldham Hospital can mean long waits for an often unreliable service, or the cost of a taxi to get to the hospital. Having access to a service miles nearer is practical for the residents. It also makes it less likely that they will be delayed attending, in turn saving the NHS from wasted appointments which cost time and money.

In the meantime, patients are forced to wait longer and longer to get a GP appointment, driving them to seek private help instead.

A new health centre is vital to cope with a growing population, local needs, and to deliver improved services.
