Average speed cameras request for Denshaw

Average speed cameras could become a reality for Denshaw. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and the Safer Roads Greater Manchester Partnership are expanding Average Speed Cameras across the region. 

Local residents and the Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for speed cameras and more speed checks in the area. The local Policing team have stepped up their speed checks in recent months. 

Councillor Garth Harkness said “ The local Policing team have been excellent in stepping up in doing what they can to tackle the issues of speeding and the community teams are also being expanded which is great to see.” 

Following campaigning by local residents and local Liberal Democrats, TfGM and Oldham Council  has formally agreed to consider Denshaw for the scheme.

Councillor Garth Harkness said: “We have worked with Greater Manchester Police and Oldham Council for years to tackle speeding in Denshaw.  Some other areas are getting average speed cameras, We have formally asked for Denshaw to be considered  and this is now being explored.”

Councillor Michael Powell added: “We are pushing for Denshaw to be included in the next phase and, if successful, will campaign for other local hotspots, including Scouthead.”
