Council finally helps Crompton residents

Oldham Council have finally come around and installed a drop kerb for the residents of Hopwood Court.
Residents had approached Liberal Democrat Crompton Councillor Louie Hamblett about improving access, requesting a dropped kerb on the road where the current ramp comes out of the building. Despite initial resistance from the Council, they have relented and undertaken the works.
Hopwood Court is one of five extra-care facilities that are managed by Housing 21 and owned by Oldham Council.
Cllr Hamblett was thrilled by the response, despite the length of time it has taken to get to this point.
He said: “This has taken a couple of years; residents at Hopwood Court have Age UK minibuses, taxis, ambulances and other vehicles picking them up and dropping them off many times during the day with very short waiting times. Highways have finally seen sense and taken the right approach to help the residents at Hopwood Court and their visitors.”
Ian, a resident of Hopwood Court, said: “It’s brilliant now that we have the kerb lowered. It means we can easily have access to and from our home and we grateful to our councillors who fought hard to make this happen.”
Cllr Hamblett added: “I am so relieved, and delighted for the residents that we have managed to get this done and that they can have step-free access to their home and community.”
