An Oldham Council meeting that descended into chaos on September 17th has been recalled for Wednesday 12th November nearly two months later than scheduled.  Liberal Democrats say key decisions and democracy should not be put on hold for this long and the public deserve better.

This is the same day as there is already scheduled a Council meeting at 6pm.

The original meeting had to be adjourned by the Mayor after an unseemly shouting match broke out between members of the Labour Party and members of the Oldham Group.

Oldham Liberal Democrat Leader councillor Howard Sykes MBE has criticised the Council for taking two months to reconvene the meeting despite most councillors agreeing to meet as early as Wednesday 1st October.

Councillor Sykes said, “I cannot believe the Council have taken so long to get on with the business of this meeting.  There has been no urgency whatsoever.  The proposed start time of the new meeting is 4:30pm, which is no good for working councillors but that will suit some people.  This whole process has been a complete shambles.  I think the public are being failed by this administration and their coalition partners.

“Assuming we finish the reconvened meeting by 6pm with then have our usual November meeting starting at 6pm and planned to end no sooner than 9:30pm, what a sorry state of affairs,” he added.
