Howard Sykes re-elected unanimously as Leader of Oldham Liberal Democrats

At a meeting of Oldham Liberal Democrat councillors on Wednesday 7th May, Shaw councillor Howard Sykes MBE was unanimously re-elected to lead the party on Oldham Council. Sykes will continue to serve as the Leader of ‘the real’ Opposition to the Administration which is made up of Labour and so-called Independent members.
Councillor Sykes said, “I’m proud to lead the Liberal Democrats in Oldham. Our job is to provide the people of Oldham with a credible and sensible alternative to Labour and the so-called Independents that prop them up.
“I want to thank my colleagues for their continued support. People want the council to get the basics right. They want opportunities for young people, and they want a Council that listens to them, rather than one that thinks it knows best. Over the coming year, our work on the Council will continue to be led by the priorities of the public.”
Councillor Sam Al-Hamdani was also elected unanimously as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrat group.
