Now that Labour’s Greater Manchester’s region-wide Clean Air Zone has been scrapped, the cost of removing Clean Air Zone signs across Greater Manchester has been revealed at a staggering £600,000.

A Freedom of Information Request submitted by the Liberal Democrats in 2022 revealed that the initial cost of putting the signs up was more than £3 million.

Oldham Liberal Democrat Leader councillor Howard Sykes MBE said, “The sheer amount of money wasted throughout this process has been appalling.  People will look at that £3.6 million figure and rightly wonder how many roads could have been repaired or how much could have been spent on public transport instead.  It’s Labour’s and Burnham’s bungle but the public has had to foot the bill.”
