Oldham Labour blasted over pothole funding silence

Oldham Liberal Democrats have expressed concerns over the failure of Labour Cabinet Member for Highways, councillor Chris Goodwin, to respond to requests for legally required information on potholes in Oldham
Liberal Democrat Group Leader councillor Howard Sykes MBE said, “Despite a formal request sent nearly three weeks ago, councillor Goodwin has not shared the promised pothole data or answered my questions about funding. In fact, he hasn’t even seen fit to reply. What has he got to hide?”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has changed the law so that councils now have to publish data on the state of their roads. But so far, Oldham’s Labour-led council has not complied with the new regulations. In his letter the councillor Goodwin, Sykes also asked how much of the £1.6 billion in government funding for road maintenance would be coming to Oldham.
Councillor Sykes said, “Oldham Council continues to fall short on the basics every time. It is not good enough that we are unable to get answers to basic questions. The Labour Group don’t appear to be able to keep to their own government’s new rules on data and they have been completely silent on funding. I worry that none of this £1.6 billion will ever find its way to Oldham Borough where it is much needed.”
