Sykes urges residents to report speeding to the police
Howard Sykes MBE has urged residents across Shaw and Crompton to report incidents of speeding to Greater Manchester Police following frustration in the community at lack of police action.
Councillor Sykes said, “After I have reported repeated speeding offences along Buckstones Road and elsewhere in Shaw, the police responded to say that they have not received enough evidence or reports to act. For action to be taken, incidents must be logged and recorded. The reality is that unless speeding is reported consistently, repeatedly and formally, it does not show up as a priority issue on police systems and they will take no action – no matter how serious it feels locally.”
Residents are urged to report issues by contacting the Neighbourhood Policing Team online at: Driving offences | Greater Manchester Police or by telephone on 101. You can also report via Crime Stoppers online at https://crimestoppers-uk.org/ or by telephone at 0800 555 111.
Councillor Sykes said, “The more reports logged, the harder it becomes for the issue to be ignored. We need action to tackle speeders before someone is injured or worse and this is the only way to get it. Patterns and volume are what generate police deployment, speed monitoring, and longer-term solutions.”
