“Where is Oldham’s pothole cash” demand Liberal Democrats as RAC report 9% rise in pothole related breakdowns

Oldham Liberal Democrat Leader councillor Howard Sykes MBE is demanding to know “where and when” Oldham’s share of the governments’ promised £1.6 billion for pothole repairs is going to be spent.
Councillor Sykes said, “The government has promised £1.6 billion for pothole repairs across the country. With our roads in a shambolic state, it is essential that Oldham Borough gets its fair share of that cash. I have been asking Oldham’s Labour Leadership how much of that money will be coming to Oldham and where and when it will be spent? So far, I am not getting an answer.”
Sykes’s comments come as a Freedom of Information request revealed that Oldham Council filled less potholes in the last year than it managed in each of the last 5 years. Now trusted roadside assistance provider The RAC has released figures showing a 9% rise in pothole related breakdowns across the country.
Councillor Sykes said, “Potholes are not just a nuisance, they are dangerous. The council has been delivering less repair work with each passing year. These are basic duties and Oldham Council is falling short. We need clarity on how much of the government grant Oldham is going to receive and how it will be used.”
